Gareth began refereeing around 2000 when he was 21 and fairly quickly progressed to Level 4. He then spent eight years as a Level 4 before being promoted to Level 3, where he spent a further four years before deciding to take the specialist Assistant Referee pathway.He spent a single season as an Assistant at Panel Select level in the National League before being promoted. He is now in his sixth season as a National List Assistant Referee on the EFL. He is also a qualified Mental Health Champion on behalf of the PGMOL. Career highlights (so far) include Portsmouth v Sunderland live on Sky (sadly during Covid times and in an empty stadium!), Exeter v Plymouth last year and a reserve assistant referee appointment in the League Two playoffs last season at Stockport v Salford.
